Composting

Compost is organic matter, such as food scraps and yard waste, that has decomposed to create a nutrient-rich soil amendment. By keeping your organics out of the landfill, you prevent the production and release of methane, a powerful greenhouse gas.

Why Compost?

  • Compost improves soil by improving quality, biodiversity, and moisture retention
  • Reduces materials going into your solid waste cart and out of the landfill
  • Relies less on chemical fertilizers to grow your garden

Composting is simple. It can be done at your home, apartment, office, or even classroom.
